A Wisconsin Tart

Nick Ortloff - Tuesday, October 28, 2014

For this featured beer, we have an offering from New Glarus Brewing Company, which is located in New Glarus, WI. Every couple of months, they release a new beer in their Thumbprint Series. For this release, they have given us Cran-Bic, which is a cranberry Lambic that is aged in oak barrels

The nose is very cranberry forward with some strong lacto notes. I'm also picking on some oak notes, which no doubt comes from the barrels that were used to age this beer.

The flavor is surprisingly sweet upfront with some sweet cranberry notes with moderately tart lacto taste. The oak isn't as prevalent in the flavor but it does provide some dimension to the actual taste.

New Glarus has crafted what I consider to be a solid Lambic. If you're in Wisconsin and you so happen to stumble upon this, check it out!
